Books That Keep Me Company When the World Outside Feels Too Loud…
A bright room,
A seat near the window,
A book in my hand,
Wouldn’t ask for anything more…
From an early age, reading always fascinated me. Sitting with a book in hand, getting lost in a different world, being able to live another person’s life — it was a magical experience. There are some books I always go back to, just to relive life once again.
One such book is Panchatantra Stories. The tales are simple yet profound. Whenever life felt difficult, this was the book I turned to. People often made fun of me, since these stories were meant for children, but deep down we are all children at heart. These stories made me believe that goodness is still alive in this world.
I remember almost crying my heart out when I had to give away my copy, as my bookshelf was overflowing. Thanks to a Kindle subscription, I can now read them anytime, anywhere. These stories will always remain a part of me until my last breath.
Another book that makes me feel better is The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It tells the story of a pilot whose life changes when his plane crashes in the Sahara Desert. Away from civilization, he meets a little prince, who speaks of his distant planet. The story may sound ordinary, but it is simple, profound, and filled with life lessons.
I remember reading it for the first time and how it made me question things and change the way I looked at life. This book grounded me whenever the world outside grew too loud. Many of its lines stayed with me, but two are my favorite:
- “All grown-ups were once children… but only few of them remember it.”
Isn’t that true? As children, we want to grow up quickly, and once we do, everything changes. Somewhere along the way, we stop listening to the child within us — the one who can guide us to our true destination. - “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.”
For me, that beautiful thing is love. A mother’s love for her child, the love between friends or companions — it may be expressed through actions, but it is always felt in the heart most deeply.
The Little Prince is the book I return to whenever things feel overwhelming. It reminds me to listen to my inner child, tweak what I can, and find solutions to my problems.
I believe every experience in life helps us understand the world in a better, deeper way.
