LETTER A: A BIBLIOPHILE TRYING TO ESCAPE REALITY

Do bibliophiles struggle to keep up with the Bibliophile world?

YES! Why though?

It’s easy to keep up with reality. It haunts you every day by making it a compulsion to face it. There’s no escape to reality full time.

But there is a time, a particular part of the day, where all you want is to imagine the fictional world and yourself. It’s like a ME TIME where you live the character you are reading.

But not every day you get to read too much keeps happening in the background. Sometimes there’s a new release, but you have other commitments.

You can always be scared of reality, but the day you get scared about your fictional world, you’ll know that you have officially escaped reality.

I read “It ends with us” by Colleen Hoover a few days back (two days before my exam began), and all I could think of was the pain the characters went through. I saw myself feeling the stress the characters felt.

Also, in 2019, when I was in a bad phase, I picked “My not so perfect life by Sophie Kinsella” in an attempt to feel the connection with the storyline, and the moment I read it, I knew that if the protagonist could get back her life together, so can I!

So here I am sharing two tips to help you start reading daily!

  • Try to reward yourself with scrolling on social media only after reading at least 10-20 pages. Reading a few pages will help you get to reading and slowly make you fall in love with reading.
Reward scrolling on phone by reading for few minutes
  • Before sleeping, put on some music, and read a few pages. The calming music and reading will also help you reduce your screen time before sleeping and help you with a well-rested sleep pattern.

Reading is the best escape from reality, although temporarily, it does help. There have been days when life challenged me, but the books gave me the support I needed the most!

Have you ever felt like this? Which book helped you escape reality?

  1. I resonate with your post so much! Books are my escape and I try to relate to the protagonist every time I pick up a book. I make it a routine to set at least 30 minutes of reading before bedtime. I should try reward scrolling too! That’s an excellent idea. 🙂

Thanks a lot! And yes exactly, my grandma gave me this tip a year back and it’s still working!

  2. Sameeksha I strongly believe that reading gives us peace of mind and we can dwell in our imaginary world for at least some time. Sometimes we do need to escape our reality so that we can accept it more. Will visit your blog regularly.

  3. There’s a famous quote from Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-Man, that I really love. Something about how escapist literature is not a bad thing. If a story helps someone who’s going through a tough time escape from reality for a little while, that story has done that person a really good thing.
